Powerful tools for software (and not only) development like magit, emerge Workflow compatibility with my desktop, which is a Linux computer Installation via Homebrew is also a decent option, although it more time consuming. Great support for editing/previewing LaTeX documents using AUCTex Support for virtually any programming language, not just syntax highlighting but also styling, completion of identifiers, automatic indentation (just using TAB in emacs keeps code clean and prevents a fairly good number of typos/mismatched parentheses etc)

Answers to questions like this are likely to be subjective. emacs, at least until I have the font installed on Linux and Windows also. In my case, I only wanted to tweak the OS X settings part of my global. I plan to use the font for a little while to see how I like it so I wanted to tweak the default font setting to use the Hack 2.0 font as the default font. I use tangle/detangle to produce emacs lisp files from the org file.

The easiest way I found was to run M-x ns-popup-font-panel to bring up the OS X font picker, select the freshly installed Hack 2.0 font and then run M-x describe-font to pick out the correct name.
